I am a journalist, editor and freelance writer based in Melbourne. After working across newspapers, magazines and digital platforms for five years I’m now working on a freelance basis. I specialise in sport, namely AFL, cricket, rugby union, triathlon and American football, but I have also produced legal, food, lifestyle and entertainment pieces.
My media career started in Mount Isa, Queensland where I was a journalist at the North West Star – a Fairfax Media daily publication. Reporting and photographing sport, I spent two years there before moving to the Whitsundays in north Queensland to take up a position with APN ARM. Initially I was employed as the digital and sports editor for the Whitsunday Times, however, during my time with APN ARM they acquired our former competitor, the Whitsunday Coast Guardian, and I became responsible for their entire sports section in the print publication too. The court beat also became one of my assignments.
After two years in the Whitsundays I moved to Melbourne to become the editor of Triathlon and Multisport Magazine – a monthly publication that circulated across Australia and New Zealand. With a vast readership in excess of 70,000, I was responsible for all editorial decisions while ensuring the product maintained the highest standards. Building integral relationships with triathletes, coaches, nutritionists, specialists, consumers, advertisers and event organisers was also a major aspect of the role.
